Jazz Tuesdays at Moriaty’s is a weekly event featuring great jazz musicians from all over the state of Michigan, and across the country. Each week brings in a different guest artist and a new experience.

May is Women in Jazz Month at Jazz Tuesdays! This week we feature saxophonist Juli Wood, from Chicago. Juli is in the tradition of saxophonists who are also great vocalists; Cleanhead Vincent, Eddie Harris, and Louis Jordan. Juli studied at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music with David Hazeltine and Berkley Fudge, and cut her teeth playing in Milwaukee and Chicago with the great bebop organist Melvin Rhyne.

Juli has played many jazz clubs and festivals nationally and internationally, including Chicago Jazz Fest, Hyde Park Jazz Fest, Milwaukee’s Summerfest, Chicago’s main jazz clubs (Jazz Showcase, Green Mill, Andy’s and Katerina’s). She has also toured Europe and played in Sweden, Finland, and Denmark.

Local pros Jim Alfredson, organ, and Jeff Shoup, drums, will round out the band.

Jazz Tuesdays is generously sponsored by Gregg Hill Publishing, and the East Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival.
